Course Description

Learn a range of skills necessary to be an effective mediator including; active listening, paraphrasing, clarifying, developing an others-focus, communication, leadership, compassion, and more. Practice these skills through exercises and assignments.

 

Understand how each of these skills is important to resolving disputes and when to use each.

Continue to hone mediation skills and be open to learning new techniques to adapt to each situation. Learn that there is not a one-size fits all type of mediator. A mediator’s job changes based on each conflict. They are simply there to facilitate and not make a decision.

Outcome

Upon successful completion, students will understand the skills necessary for a successful mediation.

Assessment

This course contains multiple assignments, exercises, role plays, and a couple of quizzes to help measure your progress and mastery of the course materials. A score of 85 or higher is required. Quizzes may be taken 2 times each.
